As Lead Design Strategist at VISA, I led the creation of a digital aid solution to help Venezuelan migrant women in Colombia securely access and manage humanitarian aid, addressing user needs and NGOs’ operational challenges.
Design Challenge: Create a solution for Venezuelan migrant women to securely access, manage, and use aid—addressing issues like cash-related security risks, lack of financial access, and low trust in institutions—while aligning with NGOs’ operational needs.
Strategic Challenge: Understand broader NGO problems, such as fragmented systems and coordination gaps, and demonstrate how solving the design problem could position stakeholders to enter and scale within the NGO space.
Applied a user-centered approach: Aligned design with migrant women’s needs and NGO goals.
Created a strategic framework: Delivered a comprehensive framework to our stakeholders for scalable NGO partnerships beyond aid distribution.
Led discovery research & testing: Worked closely with the Product Manager for business alignment and led research with the help of an agency.
Designed iteratively: Led persona creation, journey mapping, and prototyping.
We developed a secure, digital payment solution enabling Venezuelan migrant women to access and manage aid from multiple NGOs in one place—without needing a bank, payment credential, or local ID. By leveraging innovative technology, the platform ensured privacy and accessibility on low-tech devices, empowering users and providing NGOs with an efficient, scalable model for coordinated aid distribution and impact measurement across organizations.
Positioning for NGOs: By understanding the broader needs of NGOs, we positioned the organization as a strategic partner to NGOs, providing a clear entry framework into the nonprofit sector.
"Tip of the Spear": Created a secure, accessible digital aid solution, acting as the “tip of the spear” for nonprofit and government partnerships.
Concept: Demonstrated the organization’s capability to facilitate funds from governments and donors on behalf of NGOs.
User Validation: Validated end user's needs and solution for centralized aid distribution, enhanced privacy, and secure digital payments.
